inappropriate outfit for December weather in the Northern Hemisphere

... unless you live in Southern California and somehow you may get away with it.
I pretty much went through a good strong run with these shorts and I'm pretty sure it'll make its way on me again and again. But this slouchy velvet beanie is pretty much one of the best finds this fall/winter.
I'm in love and officially obsessed.

in between

The last outfit shot of me before my big move out of NYC...
I'm sure the city has much colder weather that would deem my outfit inappropriate, but it works for current conditions here in LA. I tend to throw on a larger piece of outerwear over a spring/summer silk dress in a sad little attempt to mentally hold onto one last ounce of warmer weather.

Thin summer dresses with oversized jackets and shorts with thick chunky sweaters... May seem silly, but when the mornings and evenings have over a 20 degree difference sometimes it just makes more sense.

shake it out

extra long shadows +
fully beaded sleeves & a tail makes for a fun outfit to shake around in.
With the holidays coming up, we can all justify wearing beaded sparkly things as 'normal' attire. Or for those like me, everyday attire.

if you like the top so much, you can get it here !

cloisters

[I almost forgot these photos!]
Dreaming of better days and time spent at the Met and the Cloisters.
Notice the absence of my belt after a few snapshots... I obviously have a short attention span to keeping my clothes put together.

&

WHY is it 90+ degrees here in California? I thought it was October... ten days from today a year ago, we had a surprise snow storm in NY. Now I'm here on the west melting.
Not good for Mother Earth

* btw: I highly recommend visiting the Cloisters up in the Bronx. You forget that Manhattan exists around it! + it's free with your met ticket/button

outfit no. 13 [ jules ]

While at the WWD Magic/Project trade shows, I thought why not do an outfit post.

Another NYC hot day immortalized in photographs.
Sitting out in one of my favorite places in the city - my special lookout post behind Naumburg shell and Bethesda Terrace - wearing Helmut Lang and eating two boxes of macarons.

Again, I'm wearing a bikini top... and the sheerest thin spun tank with a low back in an attempt to save myself from heat stroke.

The dappled light coming through the vines in said lookout post, makes the illusion of the sun raining down on you, and I miss this place! During the winter, the leaves fall off and all there remains are the twisted skeletons of the trees. I love it either way :)

wild child

In limbo at the moment and missing NY very very much at this point!
I'm excited to be back in Cali but at the same time, I'm homesick for my old home.
The outfit I'm wearing was the last picture I took inside of my old apartment, and seeing it again leaves me with a bittersweet feeling.
On another note, the lace cat mask?! I know with the Dark Knight film, catwoman is going to be the shizzz thing this year (especially around Halloween...), but I've always loved Selena Kyle ever since I was a little girl! It's my inner feline and my love of wild cats that fuel this fanatic behavior. Anyway, mental note for a DIY on the mask!

Oh and the little tid bits are: Loeffler Randall bag (brand spanking new for them), Givenchy shoes, YSL calla necklace (so cool) and a bit of inspo photos - indoor teepee, why not?!

Outfit details: H&M leather vest, Brandy Melville Kate Moss top, DIY shorts (painted and studded by me) & Zara shoes + my crazy-ass hair

outfit no. 9 [ jules ]

Hello Summer!
It is the official day of Summer; and New York, what a kick off... it was about 100 degrees and full blast of humidity today!

I love wearing layers & layers - I'm an autumn child - but I equally love wearing summer clothes because it's the closest you can get to naked in public. Of course, if I was beachside, that would be a different story. Since I'm here in the city, I can't go for a full on beachwear look so here's a good go-to for me: denim shorts (cut-offs because I like worn and frayed), white or black on top and minimal footwear. - A viewer/reader commented on how she always goes for her nude heels; I cannot agree with her more on this.
This semi-boring & simple outfit was taken from last week while walking around SoHo & West Village, then to Hell's Kitchen for Thai food (chandelier) followed by a quartet of cupcakes. And the shirt, I literally ripped and tore off the sleeves of my boyfriend's white oxford. SO, I guess it's mine now!

& number one rule, ladies: do not wear your stilettos through SoHo or Meatpacking. I learned from my very expensive lesson a couple years ago and always wear wedges, flats or boots through it. A woman hobbling down the street and getting stuck in the cobblestones is not a cute look, ergo my heel of choice.

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!

outfit no. 8 [ jules ]

Because I previously posted about menswear details...
I thought I'd show a nice mix-up of when girls wear boys clothes. & there should be NO boundaries!

Here's an outfit from several days ago while passing through the Comme des Garçons store on 24th St. and Chelsea Piers before eating dinner on the Hudson at the Frying Pan.

Being from Cali, I love skate culture and couldn't resist taking some snapshots of the action at the skate park. I equally love and embrace the wear and use of men's clothing for women. I don't adhere to sizing charts or gender when I shop, and this is proof that something bought from a men's store can without a doubt be worn on a girl's body. I LOVE the suspenders on the flannel shirt and I plan to DIY this to some of my old oversized oxford shirts and/or dresses!!!

Worn with a black denim skirt and some leather boots for an easy and simple feel; it was great for walking around and taking photographs on the ol' manual.
