outfit no. 2 [ jules ]

Because I hope these posts share some dialog and hold continuity...
Here are some slightly fuzzy snapshots taken after a lovely dinner date on a picture perfect summer night in Manhattan. I thought the outfit tied in with Aran's previous post on an 'I don't care' vibe since it consisted of the basics: white tee, skinny slouch fit denim & a snippet of leather. I threw on some heels (that have been blogged into oblivion elsewhere) and a small fancy-edgy bag to work with a night-time city feel. I took the boyfriend's watch for a spin just for kicks, and we might just have to "share" this one from now on. Please be advised that this combination of an outfit is destined to reappear in some form(s) again; there is nothing more comforting than having a great simple outfit to feel cool & clean. 'ya feel?

Like everyone says, "keep it simple." Love the whole moto chic look, especially when it looks sophisticated. It shows a I a smart woman but I can kick your ass too! The relaxed look of an "I don't care" attitude is best when women have that confidence stance as well. The moto vest, leather biker jacket, thigh high leather boots put together with pristine white accessories with accents of rusty gold. How much sexier can you get. 

outfit no. 1 [ jules ]

New York was unbelievably hot today to the point of delirium. I can handle the dry heat in places like LA, but wet humid heat is a whole different story. The original photo site I anticipated was a little nicer, but I seriously could not trek in this heat. So, please excuse the generic commercial backdrop since I literally took this photo behind a Whole Foods/high-rise just before going grocery shopping. I had a little vest with this outfit, but that didn't even last 5 minutes out in the heat. I'm glad I wore a minimal tank top and a sheer maxi to avoid a very unattractive sticky complexion. Oh, and the blue silk thing on my waist is a belt that looks like a men's cummerbund, just worn a little dropped on the waist (a little 'hello!' to our previous post on the 20s). I've had it since I was 13 and honestly do not even remember where and why I got it. But it's showing some use now!

We mainly do inspirational photo posts that suit our moods/aesthetic, but Aran and I did promise some less-calculated personal style photographs.

Thus, outfit number one and the blue morpho butterflies that I am always reminded of when I see a blue/black combination in attire.

Oh, and keep hydrated (& less sweat)!

roaring

I (Jules) have been dying to do a roaring twenties post for so long, but the amount of images is overwhelming when trying to sieve through them and pick out the ones to blog. It could not be contained anymore; hence the first part of our roaring post! 

I was walking pushed/cattled through  the Schiaparelli & Prada exhibit at the Met the other day and was itching to see more. On top of that, the trailer of The Great Gatsby movie that premieres at the end of this year was released and it's just one big giant visualgasm. And if you didn't already know Baz Luhrmann is the director of the film but ALSO directed the short film series at the Schiaparelli & Prada exhibit of Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada sharing a dialog across a long dining table. - Side note: Luhrmann also did Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge so expect extravagance and over-the-top, people. - excitement!

I've always been a fan of the 20's and have studied the lives of artists and couturiers of that era (E.g. Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin, Marcel Duchamp, Dalí, etc.). Dropped waists, bias cuts, draping, blunt haircuts, dark lips, cloche hats, jeweled bags & dresses, hybrids of geometrics/art deco and no restricting undergarments was a literal relief to many women of the time. It was a fantastic turn for fashion and for women to come forth as head couturiers of their own fashion house. 

When fashion finds its liberation, falling in love is an oversimplification of what we can only feel.

Beware: this is just the beginning of the rebirth of this movement... more to come!
